Anglian Water nears end of the storm storage project
Anglian Water’s £100m programme of additional storm water storage construction in the East of England is nearing completion according to the company.
Through installation of new storm tanks, and increasing the capacity of existing tanks, the programme currently captures and redirects some 72.5Ml of rainwater Anglian claimed. It is part of the Get River Positive initiative launched by Anglian and Severn Trent Water earlier this year.
The stormwater capture project is among what the companies call “five pledges” to transform river water quality across their regions. Central to the pledges, according to Anglian, is a commitment that the two water companies will ensure storm overflows and sewage treatment works do not harm rivers.
The programme is part of Anglian’s Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) which totals over £800m for work targeted at protecting the environment and improving river water quality.
