Anglian Water has joined forces with women’s skills promoter, the Women’s Utilities Network (WUN), to help the water company to improve the balance between genders in its workforce.

Anglian said the move was part of its bid to become “a truly diverse organisation.” The firm said more than half of the interns it has taken on this year are women, along with 44% of apprentices and 50% of senior manager hires.

Director of strategic delivery and commercial assurance at Anglian Water, Jason Tucker, said, “Joining forces with WUN will enable our staff to access events and mentors to assist them in their role within the utilities sector.”

He added: “We are working very hard to secure a genuinely equitable gender balance at Anglian Water. Ultimately, we want to see an equal number of men and women employed at all levels across the company.”

WUN was founded by a group of successful women with careers in energy and water to give women the “skills and confidence they need to build lasting, fulfilling careers in the utility sector.” It seeks to help women to “build the right networks, get access to training and take control of their own work lives at whichever stage of their career they are at.”

"Having people who reflect a range of genders, ethnicities, age groups, sexuality and backgrounds is something Anglian Water place huge value on.
