Anglian Water has become the second-ever recipient of a RoSPA award, recognising its commitment to promoting safety outside of the workplace, in the community.

It won a Safe@Work-Safe@Home Trophy, in a special category to recognise that employees and their families and friends are affected by injury and ill health outside of the work environment.

The judges were impressed by Anglian’s Safer LIFE programme, which helps employees consider the choices they make and take responsibility for their actions at home as well as in the workplace.RoSPA chief executive Errol Taylor said: “The workplace is actually one of the safest environments to be in. It’s when you’re at home, or enjoying some leisure time, that you’re most at risk of a serious, life-changing unintentional injury, that will have long-lasting effects on everyone around you. Employers are increasingly recognising that they need to help address this pressing issue, not just for economic reasons, but because it’s the right thing to do, and we want to encourage that at all organisations in all sectors.”

Anglian Water also picked up a Gold Award in the RoSPA Awards, which recognise organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work.
