Affinity Water yesterday launched its rising block tariff trial among 1500 customers in Stevenage. The WaterSave Tariff will be based on a rising block charge with a different price applying to the first, middle and end blocks of water consumption. The first block will be completely free, with progressively higher prices applied to the larger volumes of water in the middle and end blocks.
A control group of 1,500 other similar customers will be used to compare findings. All customers involved have AMR meters which will be read every three months.
The WaterSave Tariff is the first of its kind to be trialled in England and is supported by Ofwat and CCW. Affinity is exploring fairness, affordability and water use. It estimated that two out of three households in the trial will pay less for water if their usage stays the same.
