The passage of the Environment Bill has been paused during the coronavirus pandemic.

Greener UK’s Ruth Chambers commented: “It is completely sensible for the government to pause the Environment Bill’s passage through parliament. The government’s time and resources need to be focused on tacking the urgent public health crisis we face.

“With its potentially transformative impact on climate, nature and people, legislation such as the Environment Bill demands the full attention of ministers and civil servants. Its successful passage and implementation also depends on close scrutiny and dialogue with civil society.”
