Thames reports 100,000 low-income customers on reduced bills

Thames Water has reported that it has more than 100,000 customers on reduced bills following a drive to help vulnerable circumstances that has included making more direct contact with council tenants.

Thames said it has been contacting council tenants who were often paying a fixed amount to a housing association each month for water: “Thames Water recently made the decision to start working directly with council tenants to build a more personal relationship and find out what help it could provide.”

The company said it had campaigned to raise awareness of a 50% discount available under its its social tariff and claimed the push had taken it beyond its 85,000 target for April next year. It business plane target is to provide financial help to 200,000 customers and to have 410,000 on its priority register by the end of 2025
