Southern to axe up to 200 jobs at Brighton centre

Southern Water has warned customer service staff of its intention to shed up to 200 jobs at its contact centre in Brighton.

The company said in a statement: “A maximum of 200 people will be impacted but a full package of support is place for our colleagues,” It added: “the changes we are making will ensure our customer service remains fit for the future and meets our customers’ expectations, while keeping bills affordable and meeting the efficiency challenge set out by our regulator, Ofwat.”

It is are understood the redundancies will be implemented by Capita after it expands its contract with Southern in August. Reports in local newspapers and radio suggest Capita will move some of the jobs to its offices in South Yorkshire and others to Bangalore, India.
