MPs to assess suitability of government's choice for energy regulator chair

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee this week will hold a pre-appointment hearing with the preferred candidate for the chair of the energy regulator Ofgem, Professor Martin Cave to assess his suitability for the role before the business secretary takes the final decision on his appointment.

Regulatory economist Cave is a former deputy chair of the Competition Commission and deputy panel chair of the Competition and Markets Authority. His appointment was announced on 25 June 2018.

The hearing will be held on 3 July at 10am and broadcast on Parliament TV.
