Welsh Water ups funding for hard up by £7m with boost to social tariffs

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has increased by £7m its funding of lower bills for low-income households over the next year the company has reported.

The additional funding covers the company’s social tariff, HelpU, and other support for low-earning customers already accessing support to pay their bills. The company said “around 90,000 of those genuinely struggling” were getting support.

It said it was “well ahead of schedule” to support 100,000 people by 2020 and claimed to be “an industry leader” in helping low-income households.

The company has upped bills for next year by 1.8% – the ninth consecutive year at, or below, the inflation. And, the company said, it is investing a record £430 million this financial year in capital projects.
