New retail licence pair add telecoms and Welsh focus to mix

Energy and telecoms provider, Axis for Business and utility supply division of Smarta Environment, Smart Water, are the latest two firms to apply for a water supply and sewerage licence.

Both companies are seeking retail authorisations in water and sewerage. Smart’s application includes restricted retail – a licence to use the supply system of a water company operating wholly or mainly in Wales to supply the eligible premises of its customers.

Hull-based Axis for Business the trading name for Axis Telecoms “sees water as a natural fit to its portfolio, which will enable it to be a one stop shop for SME telecoms and utility services.”

Smarta, headquartered in Durham, said it was “committed to provide a high quality consistent level of customer service, underpinned by a competitive pricing strategy with an innovative approach to increasing efficiency, improving sustainability and reducing the costs to and for our customers.”
