Audit reveals businesses leaking water worth total of £5,000 a day

From the findings of an audit, business water retailer, Wave, has found that its largest consumers, are, between them, losing 643,000 cubic metres of water a year through leakage.

The retail joint venture between NWG Business and Anglian Water Business warned that each cubic metre costs “on average” about £3 based on AWG prices. From those figures the audited firms are, between them, losing more than £5,000 a day.

In a “recent survey”, Wave found that 49% of respondents said leaks were the biggest threat to water efficiency within their business.

The survey also revealed, according to Wave, that 38% of those polled blamed “company culture and a lack of awareness about the need to manage water use.” And 6% of respondents said “lack of advice” from their water retailer was a contributory factor in water inefficiency.

The firm is offering a free service whereby it notifies companies when it detects an “unusual increase in water use.”
