Self supply is the real thing for Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) has become the fourth customer and the first manufacturer to apply for a self supply licence. Like the previous three applicants, it has partnered with Waterscan. The water management specialist will support CCEP’s licence application; perform retail function on its behalf including market transactions, data validation and bilateral communications; and crucially support the drinks manufacturer’s sustainability ambitions.

Waterscan said CCEP is committed to ensuring water is sourced responsibly and used efficiently, with water stewardship a core part of its sustainability plan. Self supply will enable it to directly manage the supply, volume and quality of water used in its operations as well as promote water stewardship and give it a say in market development.

Wayne Boden, senior manager – environment at CCEP Great Britain commented: “We are looking forward to the future opportunities the self-supply licence offers us in managing our water usage responsibly. We value the expertise Waterscan bring in this specific space within the market and look forward to working in partnership to deliver our sustainability plan.”

Ofwat is consulting until 21 November on the application. If granted, the licence will will apply to ten manufacturing, warehousing and office sites across England which produce drinks includingCoca- Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Schweppes and Capri Sun.
