Yorkshire Water ploughs £30m into curbing leakage and bursts

by Trevor Loveday

Yorkshire Water is investing £30 million in a three-year leakage and burst reduction programme.

It has formed a team of 40 that will be responsible for implementation in the next 12 months of 15 projects across three areas: smart networks, calm networks and resilient networks.

Smart Networks

Data collection about how the network is performing and will be connected through an artificial intelligence operating system. The technology will enable the water company to optimise the response to network events, speeding up visibility, prioritisation of work and proactive customer communications.

Calm Networks

Optimising the water pressure within the network and reducing the pressure variations that can weaken pipes, ultimately resulting in bursts

Resilient Networks

Increasing control of the network to enable scheduling of automated activities that reduce the impact of a network event or remote operation of valves to mitigate the event’s impact on service.
