United Utilities moves towards proactive wastewater network management
United Utilities is moving to proactive management of its wastewater network, using real-time data, AI and machine learning.
The company is underway with a project to move to Dynamic Network Management to identify issues such as blockages and the rise of water in sewer networks quickly, so proactive action can be taken before they impact customers or the environment.
Over 19,000 sensors will be installed in manholes across the region and monitoring will be enhanced at powered and non-powered sites. The data captured will be processed to identify patterns in the performance of the company’s 78,000km of wastewater pipes, helping to predict the future performance.
