UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology appoints new chief

by Trevor Loveday

The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) has appointed Dr Stuart Wainwright OBE, as chief executive.

Wainwright (pictured) will take up the leadership of UKCEH from June 2023. He has, since 2019, been director of the Government Office for Science – the Cabinet’s scientific advisor.

Previously he has held strategy, policy and science roles across the Cabinet Office, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Wainwright will replace Professor Mark Bailey, who retires this year, having led the organisation since 2011.
