Twickenham MP petitions government to drop kick Thames Water reuse plan

Writer: by Karma Lovedayby Karma Loveday

Munira Wilson, the Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham, last week presented a petition against Thames Water’s Teddington water reuse scheme to the House of Commons.

The petition, which was signed by 700 residents and supported by 30,000 who have objected via a change.org petition, called on MPs to ask the government to remove the Teddington direct river abstraction scheme from Thames’ Water Resource Management Plan, which is currently with the secretary of state awaiting approval.

The scheme would see water taken from the Thames during times of drought and replaced with treated effluent from Mogden. The petition cited “extreme concern” about a range of issues, including construction disruption, adverse impacts on human and environmental health, preferable alternatives and shortcomings in Thames’ response to feedback so far.
