Ofwat updates 2023 charging rules so innovation can help keep water affordable
Ofwat has updated its Charges Scheme Rules to enable water companies to trial new charging structures and to require them to adhere to a set of principles when setting their charges.
Revisions, which will come into effect on 1 April 2023
Rule 13 will be updated
This seeks to make it clear that companies can trial new charging structures which could result in different charging approaches for the same class of customers for the duration of the trial this follows a consultation on charging innovation to support affordability pressures.
Introduce a new rule 11A
This will include four general charging principles: fairness and affordability; environmental protection; stability and predictability; and transparency and customer-focused service.
