Ofwat highlights leakage reduction progress as dry weather continues

As drought risk grows, Ofwat has published updated data showing water industry progress on leakage reduction (see table).

The table incorporates provisional figures from water companies for 2021-22, which Ofwat will subsequently validate. (Note also that water companies start from different baseline leakage positions).

Ofwat highlighted that some firms have reduced leakage by more than 10% over the past two years. Overall, industry-wide leakage has been cut by 11% since 2017-18.

The regulator also noted that three-quarters of companies are meeting their leakage targets.
