Northumbrian Water joins partnership to open up private sector data

Northumbrian Water has joined with UK Power Networks, GitHub, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, LinkedIn, Microsoft and R2 Factory to make private sector data more open and accessible.

The Industry Data for Society Partnership (IDSP) is a first of its kind, Northumbrian Water said. The partnership will share information such as on energy consumption, generation and efficiency data, with the hope of better visualising and understanding how to address global challenges such as advancing environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth.

As well as sharing best practices, the IDSP will also serve as a forum to engage with researchers, academics, non-profits, and the public sector in putting private-sector data to work.

Northumbrian noted it is also leading the water industry collaboration, Stream, to open up water sector data, and continues to work alongside the Geospatial Commission to create an interactive, digital map of underground pipes and cables – an idea which stemmed from the company’s Innovation Festival in 2018.
