New competition seeks ideas from young engineers to solve water challenges
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and drainage specialist Wavin have launched a competition for fresh ideas to tackle four urgent water challenges.
The Water Futures Challenge invites engineering students and junior engineers with less than three years experience from across the UK to put forward solutions on how we might:
• better address man-made pollution across our rivers and waterways;
• rethink the way the UK protects urban areas against flooding;
• use the increasing levels of rainfall and stormwater to our advantage; and
• make high-rise buildings more efficient when it comes to heating and water reuse.
There are cash prizes for the winner in each category and the overall grand winner will become the first ICE Water Futures Ambassador and be invited to join ICE’s Flooding Community Advisory Board, which meets regularly through the year.
