Irish wastewater to be monitored for coronavirus

Irish public health officials have given the green light to monitor wastewater for traces of coronavirus to check how Covid is spreading.
Irish Water has confirmed it will provide raw sewage samples from the inlet to its Ringsend wastewater plant, the county’s biggest facility, for testing.
Irish Water said: “We are supporting the work of other institutions undertaking surveillance monitoring and are providing raw sewage samples to University College Dublin, Trinity College and Dublin City analysts, who have the specialist laboratory capability to carry out such testing.
The details of this testing programmes are expected to be finalised next week and implemented in early 2021”.
