Government appoints new deputy chair for Environment Agency

Environment secretary, George Eustice, has appointed Judith Batchelar OBE as deputy chair of the Environment Agency.


Batchelar's term will run until 31 March 2025. Richard Macdonald’s term as deputy chair ends on 31 March 2022. This appointment is made by the environment secretary on the recommendation from the chair of the Environment Agency.


Batchelar (pictured) is currently chair of the Environment and Business Committee and a member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee and the People and Pay Committee. She has worked in the food and drink industry for over 35 years in manufacturing and retail. From 2013 to 2018 she was chair of the governments’ AgriTech Council, and now sits on the Food and Drink Sector, and Natural Environment Research Councils
