Essex & Suffolk Water has awarded Hull-based telecommunications company Connexin an advanced water metering infrastructure (AMI) framework contract to manage the roll-out of smart meters across its supply regions.
The water firm claimed the deal is “the largest of its kind in the UK water utility sector.”
Under the contract, Connexin will, according to the water company, deliver an end-to-end meter service covering smart water metering requirements with over 164,000 Itron water meters installed by the end of 2025 and up to one million meters by 2035.
Connexin said the contract was the third major smart water meter deal it has won alongside deals secured with Yorkshire Water and Severn Trent Water.
The Essex & Suffolk Water deal will run for up to 15 years with an initial stage of five years with the option to extend for a further ten years.
