Court date for campaign group's legal challenge to Ofwat over Urban Wastewater Treatment duties
Not-for-profit nature conservation advocate and legal activist, Wild Justice, is due to attend an in-person court hearing on 22 September, to pursue its case against what it perceives as Ofwat’s lack of action on sewage discharges. Wild Justice said it expected the judge at the hearing to either give or refuse permission for it to seek judicial review.
The campaign group has argued that Ofwat is “unlawfully failing to discharge the obligations falling on it in relation to the Urban Wastewater Treatment obligations” (the UWWT Directive, operating though the UWWT (England and Wales) Regulations 1994). In an update, Wild Justice said: “We have had, all of a sudden, some considered correspondence from Ofwat on our challenge over sewage discharges. There is no doubt Ofwat is now taking this matter, or at least our challenge, seriously.”
