CMA starts Water Industry Act investigation on Pennon’s Bristol acquisition

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) commenced its investigation under the Water Industry Act of Pennon Group’s acquisition of Bristol Water on 28 October. This will determine whether the deal is referred for a Phase Two investigation.
The CMA said the deadline for this referral would be 22 December.
The watchdog also issued a derogation to its Initial Enforcement Order of 15 June 2021 to allow Bristol to appoint new heads of economic regulation and communications.
