Irish Water sees 20% hike in household water usage since lockdown
Republic of Ireland water services company, Irish Water, has reported a 20% hike in household water usage to 24 litres a day based on readings from domestic metering since the start fo the Covid lockdown.
The fall in hon-household water usage as a result of business closures has only partially offset the growth in domestic demand, Irish Water said, as household demand accounts for two thirds of its business.
And the company is anticipating an additional surge when government restrictions on businesses are lifted as many premises will need to flush their plumbing or carry out deep cleaning.
