Watchdog blasts water retailers for failing to inform customers of Covid assistance

Water consumer watchdog, CCW, has criticised business water retailers’ communications with customers on financial help available to them. At the same time it has welcomed offers of payment breaks by retailers and is encouraging other providers to follow suit in supporting struggling businesses

CCW has urged businesses hit financially during the pandemic lockdown to “make sure they are not missing out on assistance with paying their water bills.”

It said it “fears that poor communication – particularly on some water retailers’ websites – means many business customers are unaware of recent regulatory changes allowing them to put their accounts on hold if they’ve had to temporarily close their premises.

It went on to say some retailers have also responded positively to CCW’s challenge to improve their communication with customers.
