Live video streaming enables Anglian to inspect and plan jobs under lockdown

Anglian Water has deployed so-called live stream technology that enables its staff or customers to send real-time smartphone video footage from a site to help engineers plan routine work during lockdown.

Anglian said the system will cut businesses costs by reducing travel time and expenditure, improving carbon emissions and environmental impact, while ensuring the safety of staff and customers. Anglian claims it is the first business to use the technology outside the emergency services where it is used to provide a live-feed as an incident unfolds, so the appropriate resources can be deployed.

Anglian's Head of Development Services, Iain Amis, said the Capita system will enable staff to carry out site visits and inspections “much more effectively” under the social restrictions in place during the pandemic. He added: "The applications of the technology are endless, and we're hoping to use the software across the wider business to find and report leaks, assess our infrastructure, and support customers better. It's going to help our staff to work remotely and socially distance, but it will also improve efficiencies in a range of areas."
