Code change will speed up trade effluent charging queries

Ofwat has approved for implementation on 6 November a code change that will see a new data item added in to CMOS to provide visibility for retailers of the trade effluent charging strength methodologies used by wholesalers.

CPW077 will require wholesalers to populate existing Discharge Point IDs with the information within six months of implementation.

Wholesalers collect and analyse samples of trade effluent to apply the right charges for customers. At present, retailers have to request this information via a bilateral form, which currently allows for a response in up to ten days. The change is expected to speed up the process and reduce bilateral contacts, all to the benefit of trade effluent customers.
