British infrastructure contracts awards slide 10.3% in 2019

The total value of infrastructure contract awards in Britain during 2019 was down 10.3% from 2018 at £10.4 bn according to construction industry analyst Barbour ABI.

The drop was the second consecutive decrease after a near 50% drop in 2018 from the previous year, Barbour calculated. It pointed out that a number of “very large contracts” boosted values between 2015 and 2017 including

enabling works for HS2.

Barbour reported that the greatest share of Infrastructure contract value in 2019 was in the North West of England with 24.5% all awards - up 17.2% on 2018 followed by the East of England which remained unchanged year on year at 11.8%. Bottom of the pack was West Midlands with 3.9%
