Water UK chief, Michael Roberts, to quit
Water UK’s chief executive, Michael Roberts, is stepping down.
Roberts (pictured) has led the water sector trade body since January 2016. He most recently presided over the launch of the sector’s Public Interest Commitment to deliver stretching outcomes on net zero carbon; leakage and plastic pollution reduction; affordability; and social mobility.
During his tenure, the industry has faced a spike in political and media criticism, and wider questions over its legitimacy and performance.
His departure will provide an opportunity for the water companies who fund and govern Water UK to take stock of its strategic direction and objectives in light of changing demands on the sector.
