Severn Trent granted drought permit to shore up strategic supplies

The Environment Agency has granted Severn Trent Water a drought permit that will “help to safeguard public water supplies in the company’s wider strategic water supply grid.”.

The permit – effective over 8-31 March 2019 – will increase the aggregate annual quantity of water that Severn Trent can abstract from 73,200,000 cubic metres to 77,200,000 cubic metres for the period 01 April 2018 to 31 March 2019.

It will increase the aggregate quantity of water the company is entitled to abstract from its Foremark and Staunton Harold reservoirs in Derbyshire to enable it to reduce its use of other reservoirs and so aid in the refill of reservoirs that supply the company’s strategic water supply grid.
