Conference seeks to cut through the fat, oil and grease blockages

A cross-industry conference convened for next week to come up with a plan to tackle the growing menace of fatbergs in the UK’s sewerage system, will according to it organisers, be the first time that foodservices, water companies, sustainability organisations and biofuel companies have combined to address the problem.

The meeting will explore how each part of the supply chain can stop fats, oils and grease (FOG) entering the drains and sewers. It will also explore how FOG can be recycled as a fuel.

The conference organisers estimated that FOG causes 70% of the 366,000 sewer blockages a year in the UK.

The conference, From Fog To Fuel, on March 13, in London is being organised by the Sustainable Restaurant Association and Kingspan Water and Energy.
