Glas Cymru appoints new chair for its members' selection panel

Glas Cymru has appointed former House of Commons and National Assembly clerk Sir Paul Silk as chair of its selection panel for independent members.

Glas Cymru, regularly recruits new independent members to play a key governance role in overseeing Welsh Water’s performance.

There are currently 65 members whose task is similar to the governance role of shareholders in other companies – holding the board of directors to account. They do not receive either dividends or payment.

Sir Paul, will succeed Glyn Mathias, who is retiring after five years in the role.

Sir Paul said: “ I am eager to play my part in attracting a balanced and diverse membership that reflects our communities and collectively has the necessary skills and experience to carry out this important governance role.”

Glas Cymru chairman, Alastair Lyons, said: “Sir Paul’s extensive experience will ensure that we continue to attract and recruit talented members who can effectively oversee the work of Welsh Water. His extensive experience will help us ensure the highest standards of governance.
