Ofgem's Fletcher bags Ofwat chief job

Ofwat has appointed energy regulator director Rachel Fletcher as its new chief executive officer.

Fletcher is currently senior partner for consumers and competition at Ofgem which she joined in 2005 and was previously partner for distribution. ,She has been given dispensation from Ofgem, to leave in time to join Ofwat on 8 January next year.

Fletcher has described Ofwat's intentions in its upcoming price review as :high ambition." “She went on to say "there is lots to do" with the review alongside the early stages of the business retail market and the "ongoing requirement for the sector to secure the trust and confidence of customers." .She added:: "Meeting this challenge is what makes the role so exciting."

She succeeds Cathryn Ross who leaves Ofwat for BT.
