Casework update

August 13, 2017

Ofwat has published details of its latest casework activities:

  • The regulator told Southern Water to refund £5,864 plus interest to a customer for charging too much to make new water supply connections to two blocks of flats. It warned other companies to keep the administration costs for a new water supply connection to no more than £105.30 – or to set out “compelling evidence” to justify a higher charge.

  • Ofwat ruled United Utilities’ bond charges were reasonable in a case over costs for the adoption of sewers at two new developments in Cumbria. The bonds covered the cost of bringing the sewers up to an adoptable standard.

  • On 1 August, the regulator opened a case against Wessex Water about a refusal to grant consent for a trade effluent application.
