On 3 August, MOSL published its first review of the non household water market’s performance covering the first quarter of live operation. Among the headline data reported were:
Switching: 1.4% of the 2.6 million supply points in the market switched. 95% of switches united water and wastewater services under a single retailer. 35% of switches were of sewerage services, largely a result of previous water-only companies winning associated sewerage SPIDs.
Retailer performance:
Castle Water suffered by far the greatest losses.
The market’s largest retailer, Water Plus’ losses were the next largest but these were offset by its acquisitions: it has won the most supply points to date.
Significant net winners include SES Business Water and Business Stream; other net winners include AWB and Pennon Water Services/SSWB.
Of the new entrants, Everflow put in a leading performance, with smaller wins for Clear Business Water, Water Retail Company, Regent Water and Peel.
Switchers: There were switches within each of MOSL’s customer categories, though larger users dominated in terms of propensity to switch (proportion switching within segment).
Trading parties: MOSL reported 25 wholesalers and 35 retailers, including ten new retailers. The 35 however includes companies that are not active participants in the retail market and retailers who have reported separately in Q1 but who will report together in future under joint venture arrangements.
