Some of the South East’s water companies have started their dry weather messaging, following an extremely dry, April when the UK received half of the average rainfall for the month.
The region’s water companies have shared conservation advice and in some cases, asked customers to go easy to head off the possibility of restrictions in the summer months.
The April rain shortfall followed one of the driest October to March periods for 20 years, affecting ground and surface supplies.
Regional variations in the percentage of the average April rainfall according to the Met Office were:
UK - 48%
England - 32%
Wales - 30%
Scotland - 70%
NI - 38%
