Northumbrian world's most ethical water firm for seventh year running
Northumbrian Water Group has been recognised as the most ethical water company in the world, for the seventh consecutive year by ethical advancement consultancy, the Ethisphere Institute. Northumbrian was the only company in the water and sewerage utility category to be added to this year’s World’s Most Ethical Company list compiled by Ethisphere. And the North East England firm was one of four firms in the UK and 124 companies worldwide recognised in the 2017 list by Ethisphere.
“The accolade honours those companies that recognise their role in society to influence and drive positive change,consider the impact of their actions on their employees, customers and community and use their values and culture on which to underpin the decisions they make every day,” said Ethisphere. It aded: “The designation recognises those companies who align principle with action, work tirelessly to make trust part of their corporate DNA.” This year's honoured firms showed a 9.6% "excess return" over 2013-16 compared with the Standard & Poor's 500 companies, Ethisphere claimed.
Chief executive officer of Northumbrian Water Group, Heidi Mottram, (pictured) said: “We take our commitment to the environment extremely seriously and invest in ensuring we minimise the impact of our activities and deliver sustained support to our communities. Last year alone we supported over 1,200 organisations through volunteering and other activities.
Ethisphere’s chief executive officer, Timothy Erblich added; “Over the last eleven years we have seen the shift in societal expectations, constant redefinition of laws and regulations and the geo-political climate. We have also seen how companies honored as the World’s Most Ethical respond to these challenges. They invest in their local communities around the world, embrace strategies of diversity and inclusion, and focus on long term-ism as a sustainable business advantage. Ethisphere said no company named as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies is responsible for more than 2% of its revenue. And winners may not place advertising in the issue of Ethisphere magazine that announces and highlights them.
Ethisphere lists its sources of revenue as conferences, event sponsorships, subscriptions to publications, advertising, membership groups, advisory services and licensing.
