Ofwat shares its minimum expectations of good data management
Ofwat has set out its minimum expectations for “well performing companies” on good data management. At an event last Monday to launch and discuss the new report Unlocking the value in customer data, chief executive Cathryn Ross identified the following basics:
Companies should understand and have knowledge of the data they hold.
Data should be accurate and of high quality – particularly in light of the incoming General Data Protection Regulations.
Data should be secure.
Companies should develop an ambitious data strategy and embed it in their organisations.
Aside from setting out these expectations, Ross said the report, which was developed in partnership with other stakeholders, is “intended to encourage companies to push the boundaries in what they can achieve for customers using customer data” – particularly vulnerable customers. It seeks to inspire water companies to innovate and to use data as part of their customer participation efforts.
