Wright quits Southern

Southern Water chief executive officer, Matthew Wright (pictured) is to leave the company the spring/summer of 2017 after six years at the helm. The search for a successor has begun.

The company said the finishing date will allow it time to find a successor and maintain continuity in the company's leadership into the next price review which it said "starts in earnest next year."

Wright said: "There is still much to do over the coming year and I remain completely focussed on the task in hand. In particular, I look forward to keeping up the momentum on our customer service performance, which has seen dramatic improvement in recent months.

Southern Water Chairman Robert Jennings said: Southern Water has made "impressive and sustained operational and financial progress" under Wright. He emphasised that Wright will remain "in full control of the company" until his successor is found.
